Before you come into our office here at Belle Forest Dental, you may notice that sometimes you become a bit anxious. Dental Anxiety is normal, and many people feel a bit nervous prior to seeing the dentist. While we will always do what we can to make sure you feel comfortable when you come to see us, that does not always help with the pre-appointment anxiety you may feel. Here are a few tips that you can use to help reduce the anxiety you have before your appointment.
Watch What You Eat and Drink
If you want to help keep your anxiety down, make sure you watch what you eat and drink prior to your appointment. When you have a lot of caffeine or sugar before you come in, your anxiety is naturally going to rise. On the other hand, if you eat a lot of protein before the appointment, it can help calm you down. Try eating some nuts or lean meats as your meal prior to coming in. It can help!
Use Music to Keep Your Mind Occupied and Avoid Dental Anxiety
When your mind is occupied with things like music, you have less of your mind available to get nervous about an upcoming dental procedure. Create a playlist of your favorite songs. Put the songs on shuffle and enjoy listening to them before your appointment, and on your way into our office. That way, when you get here, you are relaxed and have a big smile on your face.
Pick the Best Time of Day to Come In and See Us
If you tend to be super grumpy when you wake up in the morning, but are much happier by afternoon, then make sure to schedule your visit to our office during the happiest time of your day. On the other hand, if your afternoons are hectic, then opt for a morning appointment. Go with the time of day that is least stressful for you. It keeps your anxiety down, and helps you feel better when you come in!
