Clear Aligners in Nashville, TN

Orthodontic Problems: More Than Cosmetic Issues

Overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, crooked teeth, and overcrowding create an imbalanced bite. Sometimes, orthodontic problems can lead to bite disorders and oral health issues.

When you live with an uneven bite, you can experience pain when biting and chewing because there is more pressure on different teeth than on others. This imbalance affects the comfort of your teeth and jaw. As a result, you may develop a painful TMJ disorder.

It is also difficult to clean between overlapping teeth. Harmful bacteria can build due to food debris in hard-to-reach mouth areas. Straightening teeth can make it simpler to brush and floss. Treatments like clear braces also reduce the risk of TMJ pain, headaches, and teeth clenching and grinding.

Why Choose Invisalign?

Clear aligners are often the perfect solution for mild to moderate orthodontic needs in adult patients who want a discreet alternative to braces. Fitting like a mouthguard, the custom clear aligners will slowly reposition your teeth into a more aesthetically pleasing- and healthier- position.

Invisalign offers key benefits compared to traditional orthodontic treatment options such as metal braces. These include:

  • Comfortable treatment: Although the aligners may put pressure on the teeth for the first day or two when changed, there are no metal wires or brackets. Metal wires can often irritate the gums and soft tissues in the mouth.
  • No dietary restrictions: Aligners are easily removable. This means you can enjoy your favorite foods without restrictions. Patients who receive metal braces cannot eat popcorn, steak, hard candy, or other chewy or hard foods. These foods will not damage Invisalign unless you do not remove your aligners.
  • Better oral hygiene: Removing the aligners to clean your teeth and gums with brushing and flossing minimizes the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and even staining. Foods can get stuck in metal brackets and wires and take time to remove. With Invisalign, you can floss and brush normally.
  • Shorter treatment times: You can often achieve your cosmetic and dental health goals with Invisalign in less time than traditional options. On average, you can complete treatment in 12 months. However, this treatment time will depend on the severity of your orthodontic problems. Invisalign is best if you have crooked teeth or an overbite, underbite, or crossbite.

Treatment with Clear Braces in Nashville, TN

Our dental office will take X-rays to view your bite and determine if clear braces suit your needs. We always consider the bone structure, gum tissue, and tooth roots for treatment. We will also take initial teeth scans to create a custom orthodontic treatment plan. These are used to create a series of custom-fit aligners for your teeth.

Once the first aligners are complete, you will return to our office. We will trim the aligners and place them on your teeth to check their fit. Then, we will send you home with your aligners and case. Our office monitors and adjusts treatment to ensure you’re on track to a beautiful smile.

You will visit our office every six to eight weeks. However, you will not need to visit our office as frequently as you would with metal braces.

As the teeth gradually shift, you will replace each pair of aligners every one to two weeks. Like traditional braces, clear aligners gently move the teeth to create a straighter smile. Getting accustomed to each new pair of clear aligners may take a day or two. Although your teeth may initially feel sore, you should not feel severe pain. You should never try to force aligners on your teeth.

Caring For Invisalign

We recommend wearing your aligners for twenty to twenty-two hours daily. Wearing the aligners for the proper amount of time daily ensures you receive the best results. Do not remove the aligners for more than an hour or two. It will take longer to complete the treatment if you don’t stay on track.

You will need to clean your aligners daily. You can soak your aligners with Invisalign crystals or a similar dissolvable mouthguard soak. After cleaning, do not wrap your clear aligners in a napkin or paper towel. Instead, place them in their case. You can potentially throw away your aligners if they are not in their case.

Remove your aligners for meals, and do not drink anything other than water with your aligners on your teeth. Cleaning the aligners prevents damage or staining and keeps your breath fresh and teeth clean.

Do You Need Retainers After Invisalign Treatment?

The short answer is yes! Once you complete Invisalign treatment from our Nashville, TN, office, we will provide you with a retainer. Like Invisalign, retainers are clear appliances that are similar to mouthguards. However, retainers help keep the teeth straight.

At first, you will wear your retainer constantly. After several years, you will transition to wearing your retainer at night. You will remove your retainer to eat like Invisalign and other clear aligner treatments. It’s also best to clean your retainer with a mouthguard soak.

Wearing your retainer will prevent orthodontic relapse. Orthodontic relapse occurs when teeth shift into their previous positions following orthodontic treatment. If you lose your retainer, contact us to create a replacement. Waiting too long for a replacement can begin relapse.

You may require additional orthodontic treatment if you fail to wear your retainer. It’s possible to experience tooth gaps, overcrowding, or crooked teeth again.
